Skipping several weeks now, when I was writing but only for myself and for Lynn, and they don’t need to be put up; not anymore, that compulsion has passed. This was written on September 19th, 2006- the day we placed our rings back on our fingers, on my 41st birthday.
Twenty one years, forty one days, we knelt before God and exchanged vows, and presented each other with tokens to remind us of those vows.
After twenty one years, seventeen days and 20 hours, I took off my ring.
Twenty three days later, we’ll put them back on as a symbol again, of a renewed commitment to one another.
To continue to share, to love and laugh and cry, sometimes we’ll be giddy with happiness, sometimes we’ll be sobbing in heartache.
But through all the good, the bad, the ups and downs, remember that when we are struggling together, the symbol has meaning, because the reality is given life.
